Search and rescue teams from the Bolivar County Emergency Management Agency have been out on the Mississippi River since early Wednesday morning. They received a call before sunrise that a man was in the river. According to the radio scanner, an air fly-over was requested at around 1 p.m. to search for a JanTran deck hand who had supposedly fallen overboard from a log loader. It was not know if the man was wearing a life jacket. The EMA is diverting all calls about the search to JanTran, which has not returned phone calls. The U.S. Coast Guard is not assisting local authorities with the search. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks launched boats into the river with rescue crews but officials have not returned calls about the incident. Scanner chatter late Wednesday afternoon revealed the search was continuing and search dogs were being utilized.
