The Cleveland Board of Aldermen approved a request from the city’s department of community development director to increase fees for permits.

The increase went into effect Aug. 3.

“The current fees for permits have been in existence for about six years,” said Brett Moorman, department of community development director. “We did some research with other communities to see what their fees are.”

Moorman said where it has cost $15 for a permit the fee will now be $24. He also said the fees are based on a value table.

“This fee will be for any permit you have to get from the city like a building, electrical or plumbing permit,” he said. “The higher the project costs will determine the difference in pricing.

“This will put everybody on the same playing field,” said Moorman.

In other city news, City Engineer Greg Korb said process on city projects is continuing.

“I had to make a few changes on the plans for the bicycle trial project that were requested,” said Korb. “Right now we’re looking at a winter time bid date. I don’t think we’re going to get it in for the summer.”

Korb also said the sidewalk project on Court Street is coming along and the workers will begin the process for North Street’s sidewalks soon.

Korb said he would begin the traffic study for the intersection at Cross Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue now that school has started.

Korb is performing the study because members of the community have expressed concern about the heavy flow of traffic at the intersection and are concerned about the safety of students coming to and from school.

It is the desire of some members of the community to have a traffic light installed at the intersection.
