Funeral services were held at noon on July 3 at MJ Edwards Funeral Home in Memphis, Tenn. Burial followed at Memorial Southwood Cemetery in Memphis.
Holmes was born December 8, 1942, to the late Johnnie and Irene Holmes (Leigh). He moved to Memphis, Tenn. in 1955 and grew up in the Dixie Holmes community. He attended Manassas High School and married Geraldine Porter on June 11, 1967. Holmes worked at International Harvester (Navistar International) in Memphis for nearly 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael Holmes.
Survivors include his daughters, Tori Holmes and Geralyn Holmes, both of Memphis; seven sisters, Mary Brown of Cleveland, Lue Alice Bailey and LaJuana Wright, both of Memphis, Tenn., Doris Diane Holmes, Linda Maries and Pauline Holmes of Milwaukee, Wis. and Carolyn Downs of McComb; five brothers, Leslie Holmes of Cleveland, Larrell Leigh of Memphis, Tenn., Patrick Holmes and Donnell Thigpen, both of Milwaukee, Wis. and Charles Snipes of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
