The Cleveland Eastside 11-year-old All-Stars saw their baseball season come to a close as they lost to the Pascagoula All-Stars 7-0 in an elimination game in the Dixie Youth 11-year-old Majors Baseball Tournament in Hattiesburg Tuesday.

Pascagoula and Hattiesburg will play for the state championship tonight.

Clifton Shavers pitched into the second inning for Cleveland Eastside, but had to leave after hurting his arm. Jaylen Thigpen came in and pitched the rest of the game.

Cleveland East head coach Kelvin Williams said the team had a tough time at the plate.

“We didn’t hit the ball,” Williams said. “We had no offense. When someone did hit the ball, someone made a good play. We never did get anyone on base until the end of the game. We gave up four runs in the first two innings, and three runs in the bottom of the fifth. In that fifth inning, they had a couple of good hits.”

The Cleveland East All-Stars were a No. 1 seed after winning the North Region Tournament a little less than two weeks ago.

Williams said he is proud of his team’s performance through out the summer including the state tournament.

“To be one of the last teams remaining, that makes a great season for the boys,” Williams said. “I explained to them that in the end there were six teams left in the whole state of Mississippi, and we finished at least third. They did well. This is their second trip. That’s great. I would like to thank the community for their support in helping the children.”
