Cleveland teams ready for state tournaments

Three Cleveland teams will be competing in the Dixie Youth State Baseball Tournaments in Hattiesburg this weekend.

The Cleveland 9-year-old All-Stars will play in the Dixie Youth 9-year-old State Baseball Tournament, the Cleveland 10-year-old All-Stars will play in the Dixie Youth 10-year-old State Tournament and the Cleveland Eastside 11-year-old All-Stars will compete in the Dixie Youth Majors State Tournament.

The Cleveland 9-year-old All-Stars will play their first round game against McComb on Saturday at 8 p.m. If Cleveland wins, the team will play the winner of Sunday’s game five on Monday at 8 p.m. If Cleveland loses, the team will play the winner of game 4 on Monday at 6 p.m. The tournament is scheduled to last through Wednesday. Cleveland earned its way into the tournament by winning the North Region last week at Bear Pen Park. Members of the Cleveland All-Stars team are Paul O’Neal, Jacob Dodd, Cross Crowe, Ty Morgan, CJ Gardner, Riley Smith, Spence Martin, Shane Huskey, Nolan Horton, Zach Willingham, Trey Williamson and Eli Stallings. Coaches are Rodney Martin, Bill Dodd and Bobby Williamson.

The Cleveland Eastside 11-year-old All-Stars will play Laurel in the first round of the 11-year-old Majors State Tournament at 8 p.m. Saturday. Win or lose, Cleveland East will play Monday. If Cleveland East wins, the team will play the winner of game five at 8 p.m. If Cleveland East loses, the team will play the winner of game four at 6 p.m. The Cleveland Eastside All-Stars earned their slot to the state tournament by winning the North Region Tournament in Jackson last week. Team members are Jaylen Rogers, Kyle Moore, Jalen Thigpen, Kendrick Thompson, Glenn Williams, Clifton Shavers, Caleb Silas, Kamareon Williams, Justin Foster, Tyrik Drummer and Alfred Weir. The coaches are Kelvin Williams, Nathan Towers and William Taylor.

The Cleveland 10-year-old All-Stars will play the No. 3 seed from the South on Saturday at 6 p.m. The tournament is scheduled to last through Wednesday. No further information was available at press time. The Cleveland All-Stars were able to advance to the tournament by finishing third in last week’s North Region Tournament at Bear Pen Park. Team members are Owen Jackson, Anthony Davis, John Maggio, Frank Proctor, Rashad Harbin, Mitchell Norquist, Blake Miller, Trace Steadman, Patrick Saxon, Landon Howard, Cannon Esch and Collins Tabb. Coaches are Sammy Esch and Chad Miller.
