The Cleveland West 8 year old Coach Pitch team won the District I tournament this past weekend in Indianola with a 4-1 record. Cleveland West will play in the North Regional tournament this weekend in Kosciusko. Both teams competed in the Dixie Youth District I Coach Pitch Tournament held in Indianola and both teams had a strong showing as they represented the city well.
The Cleveland Westside 8 year old coach pitch team under Coach Betsy Aguzzi won the tournament with a 4-1 record.
Cleveland West kicked the tournament off with a 142 victory over Belzoni and came back and defeated Cleveland East 18-3 on Friday. On Saturday Cleveland West beat Indianola 8-3, lost to Clarksdale 8-6 but, rebounded to defeat Clarksdale in the second matchup 9-5.
The next step for the Cleveland West team will be a trip to Kousiusko to play in the Regional Tournament. The team will have a first round bye and will play on Saturday.
The Cleveland Eastside 8 year old All-stars finsihed second in the coach pitch tourney with a 4-2 record.
Eastside, under Coach Drefius Randle, started the tournament off with a 15-3 win over Washington County. On Friday they lost to Cleveland West 18-3. Clevealnd East beat Greenville South on Saturday 19-4, beat Indianola 16-1, lost to Clarksdale 12-10 but bounce back to beat Clarksdale 22-20.
The team will be back in action on Friday against Kousiusko.
