On Sept. 24-28, the African Methodist Episcopal Church will hold its North Mississippi conference at the Bethel AME Church.
"This will be the first time the combined conference will be in Mound Bayou," said Mayor Darryl Johnson. "It will be an economic boost to our town with several hundred people expected to attend. It is a very positive thing."
Another item on the agenda was an update on SeptemberFest, which is Aug. 29-30. The committee planning the event is Linda Collins, Bobbie Phipps, and Leighton Aldridge.
"We will have a block party Friday night featuring Mound Bayou's very own Nellie Tiger Travis and on Saturday, there will be a Healthy Mound Bayou Day with a 5K run," said Johnson. "We expect 5,000 people.
"An added feature to this year's event is the placement of markers around the city so people can see the town's historic places," said Johnson.
"AARP has collaborated in the development of the "Walking Trail" and assisted in creating an atmosphere of education and historical preservation. "
