West Bolivar plans opening ceremony

Leaders of West Bolivar Consolidated School District have planned several events prior to students returning to class on Thursday.

A Professional Learning Day for Teachers will be held from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday at West Bolivar Middle School in Rosedale.

On Tuesday, an Inaugural Ceremony for the newly formed district will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the Delta State University Campus.

The ceremonial speaker will be Dr. Valmadge Towner, President of Coahoma Community College

Following the ceremony a District Convocation will commence from 1:30–3:30 p.m. in the same location.

A second Professional Learning Day for Teachers will be held Wednesday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Teachers are to report to their assigned school.

Students will report to their assigned school on Thursday.

Earlier the Mississippi Legislature mandated the consolidation of Bolivar County’s five school districts into two.

West Bolivar Consolidated School District now includes the former districts of West Bolivar in Rosedale, Shaw and Ray Brooks.

The newly formed North Bolivar Consolidated School District now includes the former districts of North Bolivar in Shelby and Mound Bayou.

Students in North Bolivar Consolidated School District will return to class on Thursday.

Also returning to class on Thursday are students in the Cleveland School District and students of North Sunflower Academy.

Bayou Academy will begin on Aug. 11 and Presbyterian Day School will begin on Aug. 14.
