Willie Howard Jr., 71, of Cleveland died Friday, June 29, 2014, at the Methodist Rehabilitation Center in Jackson.

Celebration of Life services will be Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Lampton Street Church of Christ in Mound Bayou with the Rev. James Miller officiating. Burial will be at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2014 at Brinson Funeral Home.

Mr. Howard was born on December 19, 1943, to the late Willie Howard Sr. and Ada Woods in Dockery.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, brother MC Howard, daughter Joyce Howard and son Michael Schaffer.

Willie served in the U. S Armed Forces and fought in Vietnam as a sergeant in the Army. During his service he received several medals and commendations from the Army. He was employed at D & L for 30(+) years.

Mr. Howard is survived by his wife Mary Howard of Cleveland; two daughters, Sheila Howard of Mound Bayou and Katie McGowan of Chicago, Ill.; four sons, Tevora Howard of Cleveland, Herbert Jones of Clarksville, Tenn., Nathan Bonds of Stafford, Va., and John Fonville of Detroit Mich.; a granddaughter he reared Timolin Howard of Shelby; two stepsons Zachary Hall of Memphis, Tenn., and Christopher Hall of Cleveland; one step-daughter Keitha Goins of Southaven; four sisters Everline Turner of Cleveland, Rebecca Gillespie and Rosie Howard, both of Mound Bayou and Clara Powell of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother John Howard of Mound Bayou; 17 grandchildren; three sister-in-laws; seven bother-in-laws; a daughter-in-law Christine Schaffer of Mound Bayou; many special friends; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
