Wreck claims the life of a Mound Bayou Woman

On Wednesday June 18, 2014 at 11:23 p.m., Mississippi Highway Patrol Troopers, Bolivar County Sheriff Deputies and emergency officials were dispatched to a one-vehicle accident on US Highway 61 just south of Alligator.

The driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer was 26-year-old Jamarcus Smith of Cleveland.

Smith was traveling on the left shoulder of when the vehicle was overturned several times.

Jerricka Franklin, 20, of Mound Bayou was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

She was transported by ambulance to the Memphis Medical Center.

Franklin passed away around 2:14 p.m. from injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver and a two-year-old infant were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident; they both were transported to Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale.

The accident is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
