Ringo receives scholarship

Jozette Ringo of Broad Street High School has been selected to receive the Achievement Scholarship from Southern Arkansas University.

This scholarship includes $1,000 per semester and has a four-year value of $8,000.

Ringo is the daughter of Mandy Ringo.

Southern Arkansas University is the home of the Muleriders and offers the complete college experience in Magnolia, Ark.

Hodl wins award

Students were recently honored for their short story entries at the 36th Annual Raleigh Fine Arts Literary Contest Awards Ceremony at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh, N.C.

The Dave Patton Award for Best Story by a Varsity Athlete was awarded to Mary Neil Hodl, a junior member of the lacrosse team at Broughton High School in Raleigh, N.C.

Mary Neil is the daughter of David and Mollie Hodl of Raleigh, N.C. She is the granddaughter of John and Jane Letchworth of Shelby.

The contest, open to all Wake County high school students in the 10th through 12th grades, was created by Raleigh Fine Arts to encourage creative writing and to recognize outstanding young writers in our community.
