The incident report said the sheriff's department received a report of a body in the river near Shelby.
"Gordon Moore reported that he was fishing with his wife in the Mississippi River near Shelby when they saw what they believed to be a dead body floating in the river. EOC and BCSO investigators responded to the scene and were able to recover the body from the river."
The incident report said, "Deputy Coroner Murray Roark was also on the scene and took possession of the cadaver at 20:20 hours (8:20 p.m. ). The body appeared to have been a black male of undetermined age, possibly between 35-50 years of age. The body may have been in the water for a couple of weeks or longer. Law enforcement agencies upriver will be contacted to see if they have any missing persons who might be this unknown male."
"There was no identification on him. We turned the body over to the coroner's office and we're seeking help from surrounding counties in the areas to identify him. We have no missing persons report in Bolivar County so if anyone in the surrounding areas has a missing persons report we are seeking help," said Williams.
"Two boats went out to retrieve the body. We brought it back in to the coroner," said Brad Barr the unit chief for EOC.
The Bolivar County Sheriff's Department, the EOC, Delta K-9, and the county coroner responded to the call.
