United We Win, sponsored by the United Way of Cleveland-Bolivar County, is a tennis tournament that will be held at the Cleveland Country Club to raise money for the United Way.
The idea came about from a golf tournament the United Way held as a way to raise awareness to United Way, said Jamie Jacks, volunteer for United Way said.
Jacks said they liked the idea of tennis and thought a tennis tournament could appeal to both men and women.
Milena Araujo, director of tennis at the Cleveland Country Club, said the tournament would start at 8 a.m. Saturday.
To register for the event, participants need to fill out the entry form and pay the $35 entry fee.
Mail completed entry forms to the Cleveland Country Club, or email the form to firstname.lastname@example.org. Call-in entries are acceptable, too. Call Araujo at 662-402-6401 for more information.
Make checks payable to United Way of Cleveland-Bolivar County.
Participants are eligible for door prizes, but must register by Wednesday, if they wish to be included in the drawing.
“All proceeds benefit the United Way.” Jacks said. “It (United We Win) is a doubles tournament, and while it is competitive, it is also pretty laid back and fun. For the $35 entry fee you get snacks, lunch and some United Way goodies. The United Way is still trying to reach its goal for the year, and we are hoping that this tournament will get us closer to that goal.
“We hope to raise over $2,000,” Jacks said. “We have 10 players signed up and lots of interest, but need more.”
