As attendees were filing out of the countywide Head Start graduation Tuesday, a transformer blew at the back of the Walter Sillers Coliseum on the Delta State University campus.

Several in the area reported the explosion sounding like a canon or dynamite.

According to DSU Police Chief Lynn Buford, this was caused by a helium balloon floating up into the transformer.

The debris that fell from the transformer landed on top of a woman's head and on a young girl's foot.

Pafford EMS was called and arrived at the scene and then transported the two to Bolivar Medical Center.

"From what I understand the injuries weren't serious but they were shaken up," said Buford.

Entergy repaired the blown transformer.
