Eagles finish 3rd, Lady Eagles finish 4th

The West Bolivar Eagles and Lady Eagles turned in a solid performance in the 2A State Track meet in Pearl Saturday.

The Eagles was tied for second with 58 points in the boys meet, while the Lady Eagles finished fourth in the girls meet with 58 points.

In the boys meet, The Eagles were strong in the relay events. The team of Corriante McKenzie, Dekeenan Boyd, Don Lee and Leonardo Brown won the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:32.64. Deguadereck Rice, along with Boyd, Brown and Lee won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:32.22.

That relay event wasn’t Rice’s only gold medal. Rice also won the long jump (22-03.50) and the 800-meter run (2:02.35). Ladarius Tucker rounded out West Bolivar’s gold medal winners with a first place finish in the discus with a throw of 154 feet.

Boyd finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (51.83) and McKenzie took seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.65).

In the relay events, McKenzie, Boyd, Lee and Greg Robb finished sixth in the 4x100-meter relay (45.61).

In the girls meet for West Bolivar, the team of Jermelia Silas, Shi’Ziria Edwards, Ste’Nyia Williams and Troy’Ledria Usry won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 51.76 seconds. Edwards and Williams, along with Sha’derricka Young and Taquesha Jones, took second in the 4x200-meter relay (1:49.27). Young, Edwards, Williams and Jones rounded out West Bolivar’s top performances in the relay races by finishing fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:29.80).

In the individual events for West Bolivar, Jones finished second in the 800-meter run (2:31.30), Silas took fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.88), Rachael Hudson finished third in the triple jump (34-03.50) and fifth in the long jump (14-11), Ashley Cooper placed fourth in the shot put (31-07.50) and Ariana Butler finished eighth in the discus (78-01).
