The East Side High Trojans had a strong showing in the 3A North Half Track and Field Meet held in Winona Saturday.

So strong in fact that the speedsters, throwers and leapers finished first claiming this year's 3A North Half Championship.

On the day, the Trojans did what they needed to do as several athletes qualified for the State Meet scheduled for Monday in Pearl.

"I thought we did a lot better than I originally thought,” East Side head boys track coach Kendrick Woodard said. “We came out and really competed. We have at least one person in each of the field events for state. If we can come out strong with points in the field then we will have a chance when we reach the track.”

Leading the way for the Trojans was Anfernee Morgan who won the boys 800-meter run (2:06.00). Morgan’s teammate Perry Henry was right behind him in second place (2:07.00).

East Side’s relay team of Jalen Thomas, Jimmy Myrick, Paddarrious Bronner and Simeon Kimble won the 4x100 meter relay (44.07). East Side also won the 4x400 meter relay (3:34.14) with the team of Morgan, Kevierre Alexander, Henry and Phillip Williams.

Thomas won the boy's long jump (20-07.50)’ Jon Paul Davis won the boys high jump (6-04.00) and Henry finished third in the high jump (6-00.00).

The Trojans just did miss winning the 4x200 meter relay (1:31.56) with Davis, Bronner, Williams and Kimble. Holly Springs edged them out by a hair in the event (1:31.55).

Bronner won the 200-meter dash (22.34) and finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.28), while Kimble came in fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.35).

Caleb Silas came in second in the shot put (41-02.25), while Kedric Webb finished fourth (40-05.25).

Stanquanze Dawkins had a second place finish in the boys discus throw (125-04), while Webb finished third (115-09).

In the boys triple jump, Dekwaun Williams finished second (42-03.00) and Thomas came in fourth (41-06.50). Qudarrious Shaw came in fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.49).
