Children in Mound Bayou are on spring break but some of them will receive Christmas goodies.

Christmas in Mound Bayou is set to begin at 10 a.m. in the city hall board oom.

According to Youth Director Sgt. Kelvin Brown the toys were suppose to arrive during Christmas but because of weather, they were not delivered until Sunday.

"We are going to start passing out the toys tomorrow. Each child will receive a number and they will be allowed to choose one toy," said Brown.

"We are going to pass the toys out on a first come, first serve basis. The toys will cater to children between the ages of five and eight," he added.

According to Mayor Darryl Johnson, the purpose of the event is to bring more awareness to citizens about the Affordable Care Act.

"The toys that we have are part of a project under the Mississippi Conference of Black Mayors and the Kids Wish Network but the toys are not as nearly important as the purpose," he said.

"The deadline to sign up for Affordable Healthcare is rapidly approaching and we want our citizens to enroll," he added

Johnson said this event is a collaborative effort of all of the members of the Mississippi Black Mayors Association.

"The mayors of Rosedale, Beulah, Gunnison, Mound Bayou, Dan Harris and many other representatives from cities and towns around the county came together to make this event possible," Johnson continued.
