The Cleveland- Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a Lunch and Learn with the Mississippi State University Extension Service Center for Technology Outreach on the use of technology and the Internet to promote a business.

During this workshop patrons learned about different social media and the importance of making yourself known on the Internet.

Over 30 people signed up for the event and several more dropped in as it began.

"There are a million reasons as to why it’s important to have a presence online today. The Internet provides a very efficient way to promote your business. Push media allows you to get your message in front of thousands and even millions of potential customers instantly and pull media allows you to provide information or products to these prospects with the click of a button. When you learn how to best use these resources, your business potential can be unlimited," said Lisa Cooley, director of Team Cleveland/ Main Street.

After such a positive response to the Lunch and Learn, the chamber will host a series of workshops.

"We have selected the dates and topics for our upcoming sessions but will have more details for you as content will be developed soon. The sessions will be hands on so we will have to limit the number of attendees. Depending on interest, we may have multiple sessions. Once the details are finalized, we will allow people to sign up for these events," explained Cooley.

The first event will be on June 10 and it will focus on social media.

Cooley explained these sessions will be longer than the first and more hands on in regards to teaching people how to use different social media websites and apps.

She also said, "We may host 2 hour sessions for each topic and allow participants to sign up for the sessions they are interested in, these sessions could include (Beginner Facebook, Advanced Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram).  Once the details are finished, we will let you know!"

A location based services session will be on Sept. 9 and a Websites session will be on Dec. 9.
