The Mississippi Delta Friends of the National Rife Association will host its second annual NRA banquet at the Warehouse in Cleveland Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The Mississippi Delta Friends of the National Rife Association officially began last year on Feb. 28.

In recent years, the talk of stricter gun laws has been a hot topic among politicians in congress and the NRA has been an organization that fully supports the second amendment of the United States Constitution, which protects the rights of individuals to keep and bear arms.

Chris Haycraft, vice chairman of the Mississippi Delta Friends of the NRA, said the main goal of the banquet is to help stress the importance of the second amendment.

“All of these politicians are trying to take away our right to bear arms,” Haycraft said. “It’s not a privilege — it’s a right. We’re fighting to keep our rights.”

According to Haycraft, the Mississippi Delta Friends of the NRA has gotten some good feedback through out the community.

“John Stallings and I have been pushing ticket sales and people talk about sponsoring our banquet,” Haycraft said. “We’ve had a real positive response to this. They know what we’re trying to do and what we’re trying to protect. It’s the future of our shooting rights, our hunting sports and our children. The second amendment allows us to protect our children and our families through fire arms.”

Tickets to the banquet are $35 for singles and $60 for couples.
