Gunnison will hold a special election on Tuesday for a new alderman to fill Demorris Raymond's position.

Raymond recently moved to another state.

Candidates are Allen Hopson Jr. and Vanessa Divine Davis.

"The job description of a town alderman-at-large is similar to that of a councilman. The alderman will serve on the board. Decisions are made in regards to city funds and how they are used, as well as creating city ordinances. The alderman at large represents citizens of the entire city," said Gunnison City Clerk Marquita Payne.

To become a qualified candidate a person must have the signature of 15 registered voters and petitions are available at Gunnison Town Hall.

The alderman would be on the board until June 2016.
