Saturdays contest wasn't any different as the two top boys teams in Bolivar County went head-to-head.
Shaw jumped out on the Trojans early, but the "never say die" Trojans battled back, but in the end the Hawks had just enough to get by the Trojans 48-44.
With the win the Hawks improved to 15-6 while the Trojans fell to 16-4.
"We came out strong and were able to get up in them. We started turning the ball over because I think we got a little fatigue and they took advantage of that," said Shaw Head Coach Anthony Davis.
The Hawks opened the game with a 9-2 lead before East Side coach Leroy Cotton called timeout.
Out of the timeout the Hawks continued to dominate as they push their lead to 16-4 at the end of the first quarter.
The Trojans came alive in the second quarter as they began to play their way back into the ball game as they trailed Shaw 27-20 at halftime.
The third quarter proved to be a strong one for the Trojans as their defensive pressure picked up which allowed them to open up the period with an 11-1 run for a 31-28 lead.
The Hawks responded and at the end of the third the Hawks held a 36-33 lead.
Shaw's Octavius Stimage pushed the lead to 38-33, but a three-point basket from Clarence Stewart and a layup from John Paul Davis tied the game at 38-38.
Malik Walker put Shaw back on top at 40-38, but Perry Henry had the answer for the Trojans as he drove the lane for the layup to tie the game at 40-40.
Jermarquis Stimage made two free throws to put Shaw back on top 42-40, but once again East Side responded as Davis scored on a baseline post move for a 42-42 game with under 4:00 left to play.
Both team's went through a series of turnovers and missed shots before Walker was able to get loose for a layup down the middle of the lane for a 44-42 game with 2:45 left to play.
With 1:42 remaining in the game Davis caught the ball in the lane and finished strong at the rim for the hoop and the foul. Davis missed the free throw, but he tied the game at 44-44.
Shaw had a chance to take the lead with 1:07 left in the game, but Octavius missed the front-end of a one-and-one and East Side's Davis secured the rebound.
On East Side's next possession disaster struck as Henry's pass was stolen by Jermarquis who raced down the court and converted a layup while being fouled. The free throw was good to put Shaw on top 47-44 with under a minute left to play.
After a miss shot from the Trojans, Shaw was able to get the ball and convert a free throw for a 48-44 score which secured the victory.
