Mrs. Featherston was born on September 8, 1917, in Steele, Mo., to Wilson and Myrtle (Thompson) Barnes and was raised there on their farm. She married James “Harry” Featherston in 1941, and after World War II they farmed in Caruthersville, Mo., until 1963.
Mr. and Mrs. Featherston moved to the Mississippi Delta to farm successfully until they retired in 1979. They then traveled the country and also attended the Cross Country Trail Ride every year for 40 years. They were both members of the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. Burbon Featherston was a strong, kind, Christian woman who had the respect of anyone who knew her. She had a strong sense of family and enjoyed being with them. She knew the value of hard work and how it builds character. She always behaved like a lady, never raising her voice above a whisper. She enjoyed telling stories of her childhood and youth. She loved telling about growing up on a farm, the story of her daughter’s birth, trips to the Cross Country Trail Ride every year and many other adventures that she had with her husband. She loved to cook, especially favorite dishes of family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her husband, James Harry Featherston.
