A woman was airlifted to The Med on Tuesday after getting into a car accident on U.S. Highway 61.

"On Tuesday, December 31 at 9:53 a.m. troopers along with Bolivar Fire Rescue Officials and Bolivar County Deputies were dispatched to a one vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 61 just south of Miss. Highway 446," said Mississippi Highway Patrolman Tony Dunn.

According to Dunn, Diane Drake, 56, of Shaw was driving a Chevrolet Malibu north on U.S. Highway 61 when she traveled into the right shoulder.

She continued off the right shoulder where she collided with an embankment and overturned several times coming to rest upright in a ditch.

Two passengers in the car Calvin Diggs, 24, and Calbb Diggs, 19, both of Shaw, were taken by ambulance to Bolivar Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Drake was airlifted to The Med with possible life threatening injuries.

The three were not wearing seatbelts and the case is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

There was also an accident this morning involving a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 61 that is still under investigation by the highway patrol.

A report had not been released as of press time.
