William Cecil Tharp, 83, of Yazoo City died Saturday, December 14, 2013, at his residence.

Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Center Ridge Baptist Church in Yazoo City.

Funeral services immediately followed at the church officiated by Rev. Jon Vanlandingham, Rev. Daryl Oster and Rev. David Case.

Interment followed services in Center Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Shane Prescott, Cody Prescott, Steve Saxton, Kendal Prescott, Drew Rainer and Randy Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Long, Bob Coleman, Jim Lebord, Marshall Duell, and the Yazoo City Police Department.

He was born on April 20, 1927, in Shaw to parents Daniel Tharp and Ola Vaughn, and was married to the late Lucille Tadlock Tharp.

He was a retired police captain for the Yazoo City Police Department.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Patricia Tharp and his stepson Raymond Harris.

His survivors include daughters Sue Kimball of Carthage, Jane Howell of Greensboro, N.C., and Barbara Bonnell of Batesville; stepdaughters Joyce Johnson of Vicksburg, Carol Smith of Helena, Ark., Linda Hall of Bonaire, Ga., Annette McGraw of Yazoo City, and E. Lucille Stringer of Foxworth; brother Eugene "Shorty" Tharp of Cleveland; sisters Edna Lancaster of Belzoni, and Betty Gullick of Belzoni; 24 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
