Mary Don, a bookkeeper for Berry Farms in Tunica and a local businesswoman, was born in Minter City on May 8, 1932, to John E. Matthews Sr. and Helen Little Matthews.
She was a member of Tunica United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Tunica County Woman's Club.
She served a number of years on the board of directors of the Tunica Museum.
She is survived by her two sons Mark Evans Koonce (Anne) of Cleveland and Ellis E. Koonce III (Cathy) of Tunica; one daughter Dona Porter (Steve) of Columbus; two brothers Curtis Joe Matthews of Rock Hill, S.C., and Ben Matthews of Tunica; seven grandchildren Evans Koonce (Andi), Anna Catt (Jason), Bobbie Ann Koonce, Mary Katherin Koonce, Mark Porter, Mary Helen Porter and Allie Porter; and one great-grandchild, Andrew Catt.
Mrs. Koonce was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ellis E. Koonce Jr. and one brother, John E. Matthews Jr.
Funeral services were Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Tunica United Methodist Church with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
