The event is part of Humana's "Covering Mississippi" mobile tour, which is a statewide outreach and education campaign.
Humana is a for-profit American managed health care company that markets and administers health insurance.
"We are very pleased that Humana is coming to Mound Bayou. There is a enormous quantity of individuals who lack in knowledge about the Affordable Healthcare Act, especially in the Mississippi Delta," said Mayor Darryl Johnson.
The company has over 11.1 million customers in the United States, and it is the largest Fortune 100 company headquartered in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Humana markets its health insurance services in all 50 U.S. states, D.C., and Puerto Rico, and has international business interests in Western Europe and Asia.
Humana is a leading provider of health care plans in Mississippi, is a sponsor and supporter of Cover Mississippi, the statewide public-private coalition focused at educating Mississippi residents about the online health insurance marketplace.
Humana is offering coverage for uninsured individuals and families in 40 counties through the Mississippi health insurance exchange.
Representatives from Humana are set to be in Mound Bayou between 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Delta Health Centers.
The company is to provide uninsured Mississippians with information and answers on the health care coverage options now available to them through the Affordable Care Act.
From now until March 2014, two specially designed vehicles will travel the state of Mississippi, stopping in cities at health centers, retail outlets, churches, schools and civic auditoriums to provide free one-on-one meetings with residents.
"Great attention needs to be placed in the Mississippi. Some of the poorest individuals in the United States dwell in the Mississippi Delta and they are not able to afford healthcare primarily because they are not aware of some of the things going on in our government, particularly pertaining to healthcare," added Johnson.
Anyone can speak to the Humana-certified health insurance agents to learn more about the Health Insurance Marketplace and their health care options.
With one in five Mississippians currently uninsured, it’s critical that residents select a plan before the March 31 open enrollment deadline for the Mississippi individual market exchange to avoid a penalty.
