CHS girls take 2nd, boys finish 3rd at North Half

The Cleveland High School Wildcats and Lady Wildcats turned in a strong showing at the Class 1 North Half Swim Meet in Flowood.

The Lady Wildcats took second with 127 points in the girls division, while the Wildcats finished third with 81 points in the boys division. East Side ended up finishing sixth in the boys division with 19 points.

In the girls division, Cleveland’s relay team of Mary Madeline Lamastus, Alex Smith, Shelby Cox and Mary Clay Kline won the 200-yard medley relay (2:04.42) and finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:03.55), and Cleveland’s relay team of Elaine Vyles, Beth Baugh, Hallee Pinkerton and Mary Margaret Weeks placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:59.86) and third in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:28.28).

In the individual results, Cox won the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.50) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.76); Pinkerton took second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.73); Kline took second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:05.04); Lamastus took second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.25) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.18) and Vyles placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.13) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:23.27).

In the boys division, Cleveland’s relay team of James Harmon, Hank Phillips, Michael Beamon and Landon Howard finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:51.74). Harmon and Beamon, along with Jonathan Haynes, and Will Baugh, finished fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (2:01.14).

Harmon won the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.34) and placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.40); Haynes won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.22) and placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (25.50); Baugh finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.69) and third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.97) and Caleb Owens took fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:50.91).

For East Side in the boys division, Kelvin Williams Jr. finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.27) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (54.90):Glenn Williams finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.65) and seventh in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.90).

East Side and Cleveland High will conclude their swim season on Saturday, as the Class 1 State Swim Meet will be held at the Delta State Aquatic Center in Cleveland.
