The Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department battled two fires over the weekend.

A combine caught on fire Saturday afternoon on Bishop Road Extended.

District 1 of the BCVFD responded to the call at 3 p.m.

The fire began at the rear engine compartment and over half of the combine was destroyed.

"It was where the hydraulic fluid is and the diesel tank is so all of the fuel was out in the field too," said Bolivar County Fire Chief Lee Tedder.

Tedder said there was no definite understanding of what caused the fire.

"It could have been a bearing that went out or a hydraulic leak, the list goes on and on," said Tedder.

On Sunday, BCVFD Districts 1 and 5 responded to a house fire in Choctaw at 311 Miss. Highway 450 at 7:30 p.m.

The fire was contained to the bedroom where it was believed to have started.

There were no injuries, however there was smoke and water damage to the rest of the house.

The fire lasted approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.
