Memorial services for Benny Lee Haynes, 71, of Hollandale will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Boone Chapel, Hollandale.

He died Friday, August 30, 2013, at his home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.

Mr. Haynes was born July 16, 1942 in Balzer to Sam and Gracie Haynes. In this same year an accident took the life of his mother. Benny was taken in by his aunt and uncle, Hershel and Ombleen Haynes Powell of Hollandale and received his education in the Hollandale public schools. He served in the Chicago National Guard and was stationed at Lake Michigan. After his discharge he returned to Hollandale and was employed with Silverlake Surveillance Station. He retired in 2010 after 42 years of service.

Benny was a member of First Baptist Church in Hollandale. He was a Mason and an avid gardener sharing his crop with everyone. 

He was also preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by two brothers, Terriel Haynes of Montrose, Colo., and Issac Odell Haynes of LaVerne, Calif.; four nieces, Cathy Conico and Joyce Winters, both of Merigold, Brenda Brown of Jonesboro, Ark., and Deborah Haynes of LaVerne, Calif.; three nephews, Ricky Cross of Merigold, Gregory Haynes and Terry Haynes; and a devoted friend and caregiver, Ola Mae Holmes.

The family will receive friends from 10-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Boone Chapel, Hollandale.
