The Lady Tigers have won four straight region championships and now they have received more news that adds to the tradition of their program.
Ray Brooks head coach Demarcus McKinley has been selected as the head coach of the North and Ray Brooks senior outfielder Destiny Thomas has been selected to play for the North in the Mississippi Association of Coaches 1A/2A/3 North-South Slow Pitch All-Star softball game, which is set for Nov. 2 at Newton County High School in Decatur at 1 p.m. McKinley is the first coach, and Thomas is the first player to represent Ray Brooks in a softball all-star game.
McKinley has been the head coach of the Tigers during the entire four-year run as region champions.
McKinley said he cherishes that honor of being selected as the coach of the North is
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” McKinley said. “None of this would be possible if my kids weren’t performing like they should, so I can’t take the credit by myself. I credit the former players and current players that are playing for Ray Brooks.”
McKinley said he was proud of Thomas and what she’s accomplished.
“It says a lot about her ability to play with players from all over the state,” McKinley said. “That’s a big honor for our area to know that we do have players that can compete.”
Thomas said she can’t for the chance to play in the all-star game.
“It’s a chance to show what I can do to compete with the other girls,” Thomas said. “I want to represent my team.”
