Following a closed session Tuesday of the Cleveland Board of Aldermen meeting, where personnel, and legal and contractual issues were discussed, Police Chief Buster Bingham made the following statement:

“An officer with the Cleveland Police Department has resigned amid allegations of improper conduct. The allegations have been turned over to the proper authorities for investigation.”

Bingham added that as a personnel matter no other information could be released.

However according to Mississippi Public Records Law, if the allegations prove to be criminal resulting in an arrest, more details can be released.

The Bolivar Commercial will continue to observe this issue and release information as it becomes available.
