During the relay, cooking teams prepared hamburgers and hotdogs, while the participants walked around the track for a period of time that people determined for themselves.
At the end of the night, the Luminary Service was held, which consisted of lit paper bags around the track that are in honor and in memory of those affected by cancer.
The participants make a silent lap around the track while the names on the bags are scrolled through, followed by a firework show.
“The Luminary Service is always the highlight of the evening,” said Bolivar County Co-Event Chair Nancy Nassar.
The fundraising goal for this year is $76,000 and so far $62,295 has been raised.
The money raised will go toward cancer research, advocacy, a summer camp for children with cancer, a program that teaches women undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments on how to improve their appearance and self-image, and other services for cancer patients.
To help raise more money for the American Cancer Society, Breakfast with Disney was held on Saturday at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church.
At this event, children were able to take unlimited pictures with Disney characters like Buzz Lightyear, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Peter Pan and more for only $10.
Relay For Life will be accepting donations for this year until the end of August.
