The dinner theatre fundraiser, An Evening with Cole Porter, begins at 6 p.m. and will allow patrons to see the extensive headway in the revitalized theater space within the historic 1938 building.
The ongoing project has transformed the previously unusable theatre into a possible stage area, ballroom and multipurpose space.
The DAA is remodeling the structure in hopes of providing a new and creative space for musical, visual and theater arts.
"This event speaks to the outstanding support the Delta Arts Alliance has from its members and patrons," said Rori Herbison, interim executive director. "We are at about $12,000 right now and our fundraising goal is $15,000. We're in pretty good shape heading into the weekend."
All proceeds from the gala, which will feature haute cuisine and festive libations, go straight to renovation costs.
"The money raised gives us the ability to provide grants and match funding," added Herbison. "It helps us inch closer to the completion of this project."
Those planning to attend are encouraged to reserve a seat today, as seating is limited to 200 patrons.
Tickets for the event, $75 each, are available at the Delta Arts Alliance office (662-843-3344) and from any board member. Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and entertainment at 7 p.m.
Tickets provide a meal, two beverages of the patron's choosing and admission to an evening of entertainment. There will also be an opportunity to purchase a bottomless wine glass and choose from a fine selection of international wines.
Bolivar County artists will provide singing performances, along with two youth from the DAA dance school who will be performing solo routines.
Herbison said people throughout the community have been reminiscing about the once active space that made Ellis so unique.
"It's been very touching to hear about the sentimental value and the element of nostalgia this place has for so many people — whether is was the place someone went on their first date or when they came with their parents to the theatre for the first time.
"There is a great want in the community to see the completion of this restoration and renovation."
The overall goal of the DAA is to bring arts education to all local school children and work continuously to promote local artists. To learn more about the nonprofit organization, visit www.deltaartsalliance.com or www.facebook.com/deltaartsalliance.
