Closings set for Monday

Citizens across the country will pay tribute Monday to Memorial Day, a holiday to honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Many local businesses and offices will be closed.

The Bolivar Commercial will publish on Tuesday as normal.

Federal government buildings across the region and all Bolivar and Sunflower county courthouses will be closed on Monday.

City halls and banks across both counties will also be closed.

The Cleveland Post Office will be closed and mail will not run.

Garbage collection services from RES will operate as normal on Monday.

In other Memorial Day news, American Legion Post 165 will host a day of respect and remembrance on Monday at the Bolivar County Courthouse in Cleveland beginning at 11 a.m.

Those leading the ceremony will be Glen Crosby of American Legion Post 165, Patty Rice of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4800, Mississippi Delta Purple Heart Chapter 806 and the Patriot Guard.

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, all veterans of that war from 1950 to the present year asked to attend.
