All Shelbians and former Shelby residents are encouraged to make plans to attend the Memorial Week-end Homecoming Celebration, “Coming Together to Make a Change.”

The fun begins Friday with registration for visitors and a Mix and Mingle from 2-10 p.m. at the R.T. Hollingsworth Shelby Public Library.

Welcome packets and pre-ordered T-shirts will be distributed. Chamber of Commerce president Geraldine Grammer invites all to enjoy refreshments and visit with friends, old and new. “We want to extend a warm ‘Welcome Home’ to our guests.”

A DJ will provide music on the lawn at 4 p m. and a movie will be shown on the walking trail, so bring your lawn chairs or blankets.

The highlight of the week-end is Graduation Day Saturday at 10 a.m. at Broad Street High School.

Following graduation, the focus shifts back to the downtown library depot area with Gospel groups performing at noon, a parade honoring graduates at 1:30 p.m. and Blues groups at 2:30 p.m.

A ribs, chicken and burger Cook-Off will fill the air with tempting aromas. If you want to test your culinary skills, contact Keith Brooks at 601-291-2814. A bounce house and slide will keep kids busy.

Vendors who wish to set up a booth for Saturday’s festivities can contact Geraldine Grammer at 719-5589. T-shirts can be purchased at City Hall or at the festival.

“We invite all in the Delta area to come enjoy the hospitality and fun of our Homecoming Week-end,” said Grammer.
