Clara Mae Whatley Hagan, age 89, passed away Tuesday May 21, 2013, at the North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville.

She was born June 11, 1923, to the late Howard and Sally Thompson Whatley. Most of her life was spent near Minter City where she and her late husband, Dunlap, raised their family and farmed for nearly 60 years. She was a member of the Minter City Methodist Church and was very active in her community. She spent the last 8 years living in Cleveland Personal Care Community where she loved everyone and enjoyed all the activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dunlap Hagan; 2 brothers, Millard Lee Whatley, and Earl Whatley; sister-in-law Sue Jean Whatley; and step-grandson Robert Barnes.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday 5/23/2013 at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Ruleville. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday 5/24/2013 at Williams & Lord Funeral Home with Dr. Johnny Bley officiating.  Burial will be at Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Frances (Larry) Barnes of Rosston, AR and Patricia (Rob) Miller-McRae of Chattanooga, TN; brother Albert Whatley of Merigold; sister-in-law Paula Whatley of Crowder; grandson James Hagan Barnes of Chattanooga; 5 nephews, Marion “Bubby” Whatley, Lewis Whatley, Bill Whatley, Ed Whatley, Lee Whatley; and niece Cathy Beach.  Clara treasured her step family: Connie, Whit, Cade, and Bridie Miller; and Lynette and Joshua Barnes.

Pallbearers will be Marion Whatley, Lewis Whatley, Bill Whatley, Ed Whatley, Brad Whatley, and Christopher Whatley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar Barry Cannon and Barry Cannon.
