The Ray Brooks Lady Tigers won the Region 2-1A Girls Track and Field Meet in Winona on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers racked up 131 points to finish ahead of second place Montgomery County (112). Shaw High School came in sixth with 39 points.
In the boys meet, Ray Brooks finished second with 114 points, and Shaw took third with 90 points.
In the individual events for the girls, Deneshia Lindsey led Ray Brooks by winning the 400-meter dash (1:07.63), the 800-meter run (2:45.93) and the 1,600-meter run (6:19). Alexia Weatherspoon won the discus (90-05) and the shot put (29-08), and T’Kyra Hicks won the long jump (14-02) to round out Ray Brooks’ individual winners.
Ray Brooks’ relay team of Lindsey, Kenyatta Spivey, Destiny Thomas and Jakelia Thomas won the 4x400-meter relay race with a time of 4:48.
In the individual events for the boys, Derrick Jenkins won the 100-meter dash (11.41) and the 200-meter dash (23.48) to lead Ray Brooks.
Ray Brooks earned big wins in the relay events. The team of Jonathan Haynes, Derrick Jenkins, Dennis Jenkins and Jarvis Moore won the 4x100-meter relay (45.78) and the 4x200-meter relay (1:36.03).
For Shaw, Octavious Stimage won the 400-meter dash (55.03), Christopher Harthone won the 110-meter hurdles (19.08) and Malik Walker won the high jump (6-00).
Shaw’s relay team of Deshawn Davis, Dexter Davis, Andre Pruitt and Jermarquis Stimage won the 4x400-meter relay (4:01).
The West Bolivar Eagles and Lady Eagles flew high and fast Saturday as both teams won the Region 2-2A Track and Field meet.
The Lady Eagles scored 152.33 points to beat out the John F. Kennedy Lady Hornets who compiled 130 points for second place. The Broad Street Lady Jaguars finished in eighth place with 19.33 points.
On the boys side, the Eagles dominated the competition with 107.33 points beating out Hollandale who came in second with 90 points. John F. Kennedy finished fifth with 61 points and Broad Street came in sixth place with 52 points.
Jaqueese Wilson led the Lady Eagles with wins in the 100-meter hurdles (16.40), the 100-meter dash (12.62) and the 200-meter dash (26.70). Tashidra Devine won the 300-meter hurdles (47.76), Rachel Hudson won the girl's triple jump (32-07.00) and West Bolivar also won the 4x100 meter relay (50.73) to round out the Lady Eagles' first place finishes.
Latina Jones led the Lady Hornets with wins in the 400-meter dash (1:01.56) and the long jump (16-01.50). JFK’s Algesha Haywood won the 3200-meter run (13:29.00) while the Lady Hornets also won the 4x400 meter relay (4:19.67).
On the boys, side it was Kailo Moore leading the way for the West Bolivar Eagles as he won the 100-meter dash (10.77), the 200-meter dash (21.54) and the 400-meter dash (50.61). Deguadereck Rice won the 1600-meter run (5:03.34) and the 800-meter run (2:11.82), while Carlos Robinson won the boy's long jump (20-06.75) to help the Eagles claim top prize.
The Broad Street Jaguars won the 4x100 meter relay (44.90) and the 4x400 meter relay (3:37.21). Corey Alexander helped the Jaguars’ cause by winning the boys triple jump (43-07.50).
JFK's Octavius Taylor won the boys 3,200-meter run (10:51.00).
Region 2-3A Meet
The East Side Trojans and Trojanettes finished second in the Region 2-3A Boys and Girls Track and Field Meets in Winona Saturday.
The Trojans scored 115 points in the boys meet, while the Trojanettes scored 83 points in the girls meet. Ruleville Central took seventh in the girls meet with 29 points.
In the boys meet, Jalen Thomas won the long jump (19-07.50) and Kedric Webb won the discus (117-08) to lead East Side.
East Side’s relay team of Kevierre Alexander, Leon Green, Perry Henry and Anfernee Morgan won the 4x400-meter relay (3:34.20).
In the girls meet, East Side LaShyra Cotton dominated the field as she won the 400-meter dash (59.21), the 800-meter run (2:41.99) and the high jump (5-04). East Side’s Marquena Henry won the 1,600-meter run (6:31) to round out the individual winners for the Trojanettes.
East Side’s relay team of LaShyra Cotton, Lakeisha Cotton, Ashley Blair and Makia Walker won the 4x400-meter relay race (4:16).
In the Region 2-4A meet the Cleveland High Wildcats and Lady Wildcats had a tough day. The Lady Wildcats finished seventh with 42 points in the girls meet, while the Wildcats came in ninth with 27.33 points in the boys meet.
