Bayou 17, Deer Creek 0

The Bayou Academy Colts won their seventh straight district championship by blasting the Deer Creek School Warriors in District 2-A action at Arcola Tuesday evening.

Bayou improved to 12-2 and finished the district schedule with a perfect 8-0 mark in the district.

Michael Portner earned the win as he gave up four hits with four strikeouts and no walks in the three-inning shutout.

Caleb Pilgrim led the Colts with three hits including a home run, followed by Chantz Arbuckle with three hits and Cole Hutchinson with two hits.

West Bolivar 16, Broad Street 3

The West Bolivar High School Eagles picked up a big Region 3-2A victory over the Broad Street Jaguars in Rosedale Tuesday evening.

West Bolivar improved to 7-2 with a 5-2 mark in the region. The game was a continuation of a contest that began on Mar. 8 in Shelby when the game was called due to darkness after the fifth inning with the score tied at 3-3. When the game in Rosedale on Tuesday, the Eagles were hot at the plate as they scored three runs in the sixth and 10 runs in the seventh.

Kylan Johnson earned the win on the mound as he struck out 13 in the seven-inning complete game effort.

Tyrrique Gaiters led the Eagles at the plate with an inside-the-park grand slam home run, followed by Kendall Smith with two hits including a double and Tayshawn Conway with two hits.

After West Bolivar won, the Eagles and Jaguars began their regularly scheduled region contest. The Eagles held a commanding 8-3 lead in the bottom of the third when the game was called due to darkness. A date to continue the game between the two teams has yet to be determined.

The Eagles are currently in second place in the region, while the Jaguars are third.

Cleveland 17, Gentry 2

The Cleveland High School Wildcats cruised past the Gentry High School Rams in Region 3-4A action at Indianola Tuesday evening.

Cleveland improved to 17-1 with a 7-0 mark in the region. Jordan Burchfield went the full five innings on the mound for Cleveland as he allowed two unearned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Burchfield drilled three hits and scored two runs, Trace Bray stroked three hits and drove in four run, Marshall Boggs roped two hits including a triple with five RBIs and Jason Young nailed two hits with a RBI to lead Cleveland.

Cleveland is scheduled to travel to Belzoni to play Humphreys County in another region game set for 6 p.m. on Friday. Cleveland will return to the diamond on Saturday to play Shaw High School Hawks in a doubleheader set for 2 p.m.
