Bolivar County Head Start racked up a number of prestigious awards at the Region IV Head Start Association Banquet held in Atlanta, Ga., on Feb. 6.

The awardees were: Elnora Littleton, executive director of Bolivar County Community Action Agency, Inc. — Billy J. McCain Sr. Memorial Award; Nettie Nailer of Shaw Head Start — Administrator of the Year; Ora Martin Jackson of Bolivar County Head Start Program, Family Services — Staff of the Year; Elna P. Shelton of Cleveland Center No. 3, Head Start Parent of the Year; and Eboneé Jackson of Shaw Head Start — Scholarship For Head Start Graduates, runner up.

The recipients competed against Mississippi and the seven other states within Region IV — Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama.

All locals recognized were nominated by the Mississippi Head Start Association.

"We are just very proud of our staff and all the hard work they put in to make this recognition possible," said Littleton.

According to Derrick Rogers, public relations for BCCAA/Head Start, Littleton is the first to receive the McCain Memorial Award on a regional level.

"We are honored that our agency was able to showcase the hard work of everyone involved with Bolivar County Head Start," said Rogers.

Rogers said of the nine awards given, five went to BCHP staff.

Staff of the Year winner, Jackson, said the recognition was uplifting.

"It was an exciting and rewarding feeling to be recognized on a regional level," said Jackson. "The late Billy J. McCain would be elated that Bolivar County Head Start is still showcasing excellence among other programs in the region."
