Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2012, at Walker Funeral Home in Decatur, Ill.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at at New Salem Baptist Church in Decatur, Ill.
He was born July 15, 1949, in Merigold. He was the son of Henry "Butch” Smith and Lillian Ozella Bell Smith. He was employed at D & L in Cleveland, for a number of years and served in the National Guard Army upon discharge for medical reasons.
After moving to Decatur, Ill., he joined Upper Room Missionary Pentecost Church under the leadership of his brother, Rev. Charles Smith. Prior to his arrival, he was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Gunnison.
He was preceded in death by father, William Henry “Butch” Smith; mother, Lillian Ozella Bell Smith; grandparents, William and Hattie Iola Freeman-Bell; and siblings, Samuel Lee, Clyde, Albert, Leola and a set of triplets.
He is survived by sons: Quincy Darrell (Pamela) Smith and Casey Bernard (Angela) Smith; daughters, Rosalyn Sheron (Michael) Howard, Shyekia Shanta (Zackary) Fortenberry and Sherrica Sherrell Smith; brothers, Rev. Charles Edward (Denise) Smith of Decatur, Ill.; Terry Lee (Doris) Smith of Freeport, Bahamas, Rev. Bobby Dale (Sheila) Smith of Albany, Ga., and Curtis Lee (Tierra) Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Viola Alemeta Thomas, Iola (James) Washington, Mary Ann Smith, Yvonia Smith, Lillian (Michael) Kinnison, Brauder Gale Smith and Juanita Smith, all of Decatur, Ill., and Zelda Ann Smith of Punta Gorda, Fla.; additional brother and sisters, Frank Pinkston, Deloris (Henry) Butler of Gunnison, Seacola James of Gunnison, Loretta Jones of Long Beach, Calif., Lashell Jones of Gunnison, Hester (Anthony) Madison of Shelby, Latisha Scott of Decatur, Ill., Barbara Richardson of Akron, Ohio, and Bobbie Oliver of Decatur, Ill.; grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Ryan Jamal Smith, Lajavion Johnson, Zackery Daniel Fortenberry, Jr., Harlie Rose Fortenberry, Chelsea Mariah Goode, Madison Nicole Howard, Lauren McKenzie Howard, Bailey Cheyenne Fortenberry and Ava Marie Smith.
