Both two seeds from the boys and girls side of the tournament were victorious as the No. 2 seeded East Side Trojanettes defeated the No. 1 seeded John F. Kennedy Lady Hornets 51-45.
With the win the Trojanettes improved to 12-3 on the year. The Lady Hornets fell to 13-2 on the year.
LaShyra Cotton led the Trojanettes with 30 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and five steals. Keisha Cotton was a force inside for East Side in the win as she compiled seven points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks. Carvacier Sanders finished the game with nine points.
Frederica Haywood led JFK with 25 points and Ieysha Mays scored 10 points.
The boy's championship game was an interesting one as the Shaw Hawks defeated the West Bolivar Eagles 62-54.
The Hawks improved to 11-4 on the year and the Eagles fell to 11-3.
The Hawks were in control of the contest holding a double-digit lead, but the Eagles refused to die and fought their way back into the contest.
With 2:02 left in the game West Bolivar trailed Shaw 53-42. West Bolivar's Frank "instant offense" Fields knocked down a three point shot with 1:43 for a 53-45 game. Shaw's Leadavious Rice hit two free throws to give the Hawks a 55-45 lead, but Fields struck again with a three point shot with 1:30 left in the game for a 55-48 game. The Eagles defense managed to get the ball back and Fields hit another three point shot to pull the game to 55-51 with 1:03 remaining on the clock.
Andre Pruitt made one free throw for Shaw to give them a 56-51 lead, but a free throw from Larry Walker and a free throw from Kylan Johnson pulled the game to 56-53 with: 50 left on the clock.
That would be as close as the Eagles could get as they had to foul the Hawks the rest of the way and Shaw put the final nail in the Eagles coffin as the made 5-of-6 free throws to end the game for a 62-54 final.
DeShawn Davis and Andre Pruitt led the Hawks with 13 points each and Rice finished with 11 points. Fields led the Eagles with 23 points while Walker and Terrance Johnson scored nine points each.
In the earlier girl's game the Cleveland Lady Wildcats defeated the West Bolivar Lady Eagles 48-31.
Cleveland High was led by Brittany Thigpen with 18 points, Chelsea Heffner with 10, Maya Richard with nine and McKinnon Skeen with eight points. Kalesha Williams led West Bolivar with 10 points.
In the earlier boys game the East Side Trojans beat the Broad Street Jaguars 44-37. Charles Jackson led East Side with 12 points, Barron Burns scored 10 and Brandt Williams scored eight points. B.J. Hall led Broad Street with 12 points and Carmen Banger scored 10 points.
