Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, at Harmony Baptist Church. Rev. Stephen Ramsey officiated the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Greenville.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the church.
Mr. Carpenter was born Oct. 15, 2949, in Lake Village, Ark., to Gus Henry and Freddie Mae Carpenter. He has been a long-time resident of Greenville where he was a route man for Little Debbie Snack Cakes. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus Henry Carpenter and Freddie Mae Vowell Carpenter and his brother, Gus Henry Carpenter Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Peggy Burleson Carpenter of Greenville; his daughter, Marcie Carpenter Montague of Cleveland; his son and daughter-in-law, Clifford Wayne Carpenter II and his wife Jennifer of Greenville; two brothers, James Edward Carpenter of Tupelo and Robert Edgar Carpenter and his wife Lisa of Kimble, Texas; three sisters, Margaret A. Brandon of Indianola, Linda Joyce Tadlock of Belzoni and Debbie Gillespie and her husband Paul of Amory; three granddaughters, Katelynn Elaine Carpenter, Macie Elizabeth Carpenter and McKenzie Clair Montague; two grandsons, Clifford Wayne Carpenter III and Colton Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
