Herbert J.L. Green Sr. died Friday, October 12, 2012.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Bright Star M.B. Church in Merigold with Pastor Derrick L. Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Merigold Cemetery under the direction Brinson Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Mr. Green was born in Dorchester, S.C., to Mr. Robert Green and Mrs. Azalee Bryant on January 13, 1939. Herbert was the second oldest of four children from this union.

Shortly after his arrival to Chicago in May 1972 he and Mae Bell Harris were joined in holy matrimony. He was a faithful employee of Rheem Manufacturing Co until they outsourced in 1985. Herbert continued his education in Heating and Ventilation A/C receiving his certification as a HVAC technician. In 1990 he relocated the family to Robbins Ill., where he worked for Mayflower, then Laidlaw Transit as a Driver/Trainer until he was no longer able to work in 1998. He moved to Mississippi in 2001.

Herbert found God at an early age and rededicated his life to Christ in 1986 under the pastoral leadership and guidance of Evangelist Eva M. Tuggle at God’s Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ of Chicago, Ill., where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member until he migrated to Shelby serving as a Deacon at Bright Star M.B Church until his death.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; one brother Nathaniel Green; one granddaughter;

He is survived his wife by Mrs. Mae Bell Green; seven children, Cheryl Green of Connecticut, Herbert “Eggie” J.L Green Jr. of Florida, Pamela Houston of Connecticut, Marcus “Majic” Harris of Texas, Sophia Cosey of Mississippi, H. Joe Green Jr. of Texas and Larmont Green and Sonia Green, both of Mississippi; one sister, Earline Green-Mylers of South Carolina; one brother, Johnnie Green of South Carolina; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Jones, Charles Lofton, Morris Lofton, Octavius Harris, Takarus Harris, Nathan Black, Abraham Carmichael and Lonnie Lofton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Neal Lofton Jr., Peter Harris, Earnest Sellers, Phillip Jones, W.C. Lofton, Peter Harris, Thorton Harris and Steve.
