Two near fatal accidents plagued Bolivar County over the weekend as people flooded into the area for the 30th Annual Octoberfest in Cleveland. Both accidents occurred on Friday.

At 7:55 p.m. the Cleveland Police Department called in an accident report to the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department.

According to the sheriff's report, the officers told the dispatcher that a tree was on fire near the intersection of North Bayou Avenue and McKnight Road where an automobile accident had occurred.

Two deputies were dispatched to the scene along with Battalion One of the Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department.

Upon arrival on the scene, deputies found that a white Pontiac G8 driven by Brandy Nicole Gant, 29, of Cleveland had been involved in a one-car accident with the car possibly striking the tree.

Gant was transported by helicopter to The Med in Memphis with a head trauma and other serious injuries.

As of this morning she remains in a medically induced coma but is making progress.

A call reporting the second accident came into the sheriff's department at 8:10 p.m.

The caller informed dispatch of an automobile accident on Drew-Merigold Road.

Upon arrival on the scene deputies found a single car had unexplainably run off of the road.

The driver, Eddie McKinney, 48, was transported to Bolivar Medical Center and Battalion One of the Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene.
