Moore, who was recently selected to play for the West in the 2013 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, had his jersey presented to him by Marine Corps Sgt. Willie Adams in the auditorium here at West Bolivar High School in a room full of jubilant students, fans and faculty.
“It’s a big moment,” Moore said about having his jersey presented to him. “It was like I had won the state championship game all over again. I had a lot of people there that were supporting me. I had my family, my girlfriend, my big fan base, everybody was supporting me.”
Moore is one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of West Bolivar High School. Moore was instrumental in the Eagles winning the 2A State Championship last year and was also key in West Bolivar winning the 2A Boys State Track Championship in May. This year, Moore has rushed for 502 yards with eight touchdowns on just 62 carries as the Eagles are currently 7-2 with a perfect 3-0 record in Region 4-2A.
Moore, who verbally committed to play football and run track at Mississippi State University, said the work he has put into football has enabled him to earn the acclaim and the honors.
“I just come to practice everyday and work hard,” Moore said. “Now that people see I’ve got chosen to play in the All-American bowl, they know I’m a good player. Once I get there, I want to represent my state and put on (a show) for my town.”
Moore won’t be the only representative from West Bolivar on the team. Eagles head football coach Henry Johnson was chosen to be a part of the coaching staff on the West team. Johnson, who is in his 13th season as West Bolivar’s head coach, has posted a career record of 138-31 with two 2A State Championships (2007, 2011).
“That’s a great honor,” Johnson said about being chosen to be a part of the coaching staff. “It’s another feather in my cap and another feather in West Bolivar football’s cap to. It’s just not about me and Kailo, but it’s always about the team. It’s a very proud accomplishment. We’re very proud and elated to represent our community in the national all-star game.”
The Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl will be played on Jan. 4 at the Depot Center in Carson, Calif. It will be aired on the NFL Network. The Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl is sponsored by Junior Rank and the United States Marine Corps.
