A Cleveland man is behind bars this morning in Clarksville, Tenn., awaiting extradition back to Bolivar County.

The Bolivar County Sheriff's Department issued arrest warrants for kidnapping and rape on Lamarcus Matthews, 30, of Cleveland on Tuesday.

According to Chief Deputy Gerald Wesley Jr., the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department received a call from the Department of Human Services to respond to Bolivar Medical Center in reference to a juvenile being kidnapped and raped.

During the ensuing investigation, the juvenile told authorities that Matthews had forced her at gunpoint to go with him to a hotel in Ruleville Monday evening.

Once Matthews got the juvenile into the room, he forced her to have sexual intercourse with him.

Matthews fled the local area soon after the incident occurred and the U.S. Marshal's Service located Matthews in the Clarksville, Tenn., area.

The 5'6", 160 pound Matthews was apprehended by Marshals early Thursday evening. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail awaiting extradition back to Bolivar County to answer to the charges filed against him.

The Bolivar Commercial will have more information as it unfolds.
