Mr. and Mrs. Frager McGee of Renova are pleased to announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Valerie McGee, to Fredrick C. Akon, son of Mr. Fredrick Akon, of Dallas, Texas and Ms. Barbara C. Akon of Merigold.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Ruthie Mae Ward, the late Mr. S.T. Ward of Mound Bayou and the late Mr. A.J. McGee and Mrs. Flora Ann McGee, of Cleveland.

She is a graduate of East Side High School in Cleveland and Northwest Community College where she received her Associate of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She is also a 2010 graduate of Delta State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies as well as her Master of Education in Special Education from Delta State University (2012). She is currently pursuing an Educational Specialist degree in Elementary Education at Delta State University.

While in college, she was a student recruiter, a member of Future Educators of America and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

She is employed as a photo lab technician at Wal-Mart in Cleveland, MS and in the North Bolivar School District as a Special Education teacher.

The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Mr. Percy L. Carter, Sr. and the late Mrs. Christine Bunche Carter of Cleveland and the late Mr. Roy Akon and Ms. Mary Graham Akon of Cleveland.

He is a 1999 graduate of East Side High School in Cleveland where he was an outstanding football and basketball player. He is also a 2006 graduate of Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena. where he was a member of the Delta Devils football team. He received his Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Education.

He is employed with Jantran, Inc. of Rosedale.

The couple will exchange vows in a 1 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Lampton Street Church of Christ in Mound Bayou. Dr. Harvey M. Jackson will officiate.

A reception will follow at the Fred B. Clark Family Life Center in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Family and friends are invited.
