He was born November 23, 1953, in Memphis, Tenn., to Lewis Jones Barksdale Jr. and Mary Jane Sabin Barksdale, who both preceded him in death.
He was survived by his children Lewis Jones Barksdale IV and Margaret Elizabeth Barksdale; two grandchildren Lewis Jones Barksdale V “Hunt” and Robert Gaines Barksdale, all of Clarksdale; and his sisters Leslie Barksdale Bell of Duncan and Priscilla Barksdale Thompson of Collierville, Tenn.
He is also survived by five nephews Marvin Alden Bell III of Shelby, Warren Barksdale Bell of Merigold, William Snyder Bell of Duncan, Edgar Alston Meeks Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., and Brett Hamilton Meeks of Oxford.
He was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tenn., and the University of Mississippi. Jones was an avid sportsman and long-time member of Beulah Island and Donaldson Point Hunting Clubs. He was a communicant of Saint Georges Episcopal Church. He was involved in farming interest in Quitman County and owned and operated Dalmar Plantation. Mr. Barksdale also served on the Quitman County Republican Executive Committee for many years.
Services will be conducted at Saint Georges Episcopal Church in Clarksdale. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. in the Church’s Fellowship Hall and the service will start at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.
A private internment for the family will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Grenada.
Arrangements are being held by Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale.
Memorials may be made to Saint Georges Episcopal Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
