The Bayou Academy Colts ran over the Greenville Christian Saints in their District 2-A opener at Greenville Tuesday evening.
Bayou improved to 2-1. The game ended after three inning due to the 15-run mercy rule. Stewart Salley gave up a lone hit with eight strikeouts and no walks in the shutout victory.
William Vaughn led Bayou at the plate with two triples and four RBIs, followed by Chase Aguzzi with two hits including a triple and two RBIs, Salley with two hits and two RBIs, Dillon Vickers with two hits and a RBI and Caleb Pilgrim and Chandler Carvan with a hit and a RBI each.
Bayou will return to action on Thursday when the team travels to Drew to play North Sunflower Academy at 4 p.m.
West Bolivar 17, West Tallahatchie 1
The West Bolivar Eagles cruised past the West Tallahatchie Choctaws to open the baseball season in Rosedale Tuesday evening. No further information was reported.
West Bolivar will hit the road to Sarah to play Strayhorn on Friday.
Shaw goes 1-1
The Shaw High School Hawks went 1-1 in their first two games of the season this weekend.
Shaw lost to Gentry in Shaw 11-4 on Friday and defeated the Broad Street Jaguars 20-2 on Saturday in Shaw.
Against Gentry, Devonta Allen led the Hawks at the plate with two hits including a triple with a RBI and a run scored, followed by Demerrius Williams with two hits and a run scored and Chris Harthrone with a hit, a run scored and a RBI.
Allen took three loss on the mound by giving up seven runs (three earned) on five hits with five strikeouts in four and a third innings of work.
Against Broad Street, Demerrius Williams roped two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead the Hawks, followed by DJ Bell with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored, Allen with two RBIs and three runs scored and Braxton Reed with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Bell earned the win on the mound by tossing a five-inning no-hitter. He gave just up two unearned runs with nine strikeouts and seven walks.
Shaw’s next game is scheduled for Friday in Belzoni against Humphreys County at 3:30 p.m. Broad Street (0-1) will play John F. Kennedy on Mar. 8 in Mound Bayou at 4 p.m.
Central Holmes 17, NSA 6
The Central Holmes Academy Trojans cruised past the North Sunflower Academy Rebels at Lexington Monday evening.
NSA fell to 0-3.
Austin Starnes (0-1) was tagged with the loss on the mound for the Rebels in relief. Kyle Blackwell started the game for NSA, and Nick Thompson finished the game out for NSA.
Matt McCool and Nathan Cummins led Rebels at the plate with two hits each.
NSA will host Strider at 4 p.m. today in Drew.
