The center has organized Walk for Life for the past 14 yearsband has decided to spruce up the day with the addition of a 5K run.
"We wanted to shake it up a little this year," said WRC Executive Director Anne-Marie Brown. "We don't want to lose our base of dedicated walkers but we also want to draw in a younger crowd of runners."
The race will begin and end at the fitness trail but the majority of the course will be through surrounding residential streets.
"This fundraiser is very important to us since we increased our client intake by 230 percent," said Brown. "I'd like to see us raise $25,000."
Brown and the center crew have been busy providing information, assistance and encouragement to women facing unplanned pregnancy — the main purpose of the organization.
"People often think that unplanned pregnancy would never happen to them but when it does, we can help with the information people need to know," said Brown.
"This race is about raising awareness of the WRC as well as promoting health and wellness in the community. It will also promote prenatal health and wellness."
Registration forms for the race can be completed at the office on 1410 Highway 8 West, or online through the center's upcoming events tab — www.SupportWRC.org. The deadline for online registration is Sept. 26.
The last day to register and be guaranteed an event T-shirt is Wednesday.
Late registrants can also complete paperwork before 7 a.m. the day of the race.
"For people who don't want to compete in the race but want to walk and fundraise, they'll still be able to walk around the fitness track," said Brown. "Runners can come by our office to get the donors or pledge brochure."
"Every penny will benefit the WRC," added Brown. "Everything goes toward helping young women and young families do better."
Brown said there will be a fun room for kids 12 and under, along with childcare provided by the Kappa Delta sorority for children three and older.
Prizes, gift certificates, trophies and participant gift bags will also be awarded.
"We're working really hard so this will be a great 5K that everyone will remember," said Brown.
